How do I access and interpret my web stats?About StatsThe web server in your virtual domain produces copious information about visitors to your site, and stores this information in log files. Unfortunately, the amount and format of this information is pretty overwhelming. Fortunately, our web stats process digests all this information daily, and automatically produces useful reports with tables and graphs. By learning how to access and interpret your stats, you can discover many interesting things about how your web site is being used by visitors. By the way, if you already have web stats software that you prefer to use, or if you'd just like to look at your log files, contact us for instructions on downloading your log files. However, we encourage you to check out the stats that we provide. It's much quicker than waiting for those enormous log files to download! Accessing Your StatsYour stats area is password-protected, so that other people can't access your stats unless you give them permission. To see your stats, just enter this URL (web address) in the Location or URL field of your favorite web browser:
http://www.your-domain.com/stats/
Of course, substitute your own virtual domain name for your-domain. You might want to bookmark your stats page if you plan to look at it frequently. The browser will pop up a window asking for your user name and password. For your convenience, we've initially configured the stats to use the same user name and password as your ftp access, so just enter that name and password.
If you want to allow other people to access your stats,
please contact us
to set up additional names for your stats.
Interpreting Your StatsThe first page of your stats area contains links to the actual stats pages, and describes how to interpret what you see on those pages. Since there is so much information, it will take a little time to explore and understand your stats. We suggest that you to print out the first page of your stats area, and refer to it while you study the tables and graphs on the various stats pages. Technical DetailsWe use the Wusage program from Boutell.Com to produce our stats. It has many, many options. If you require a custom configuration for your stats, please contact us. The log files for your virtual domain are "rotated" each night at midnight. This means that the log files for the just-completed day are closed off, and new log files are started for the new day. The stats are processed from the closed-off log files in the wee hours. |
